In a nutshell, the process involves analyzing the collection that you want to have included in the shared online service, identifying the resources available (be it microfilm or paper copies) and then establishing the best and most cost effective way of digitizing the items and adding them to the database.
Depending upon the format and amount of original material being used, and the availability of funds for the project, the process usually takes between three and four months to complete. However, some projects can take longer if very large, or if additional permissions and resources are needed.
