National Book Festival 2018

CSL staff will represent Colorado at this Library of Congress event in Washington, D.C.

The 18th Library of Congress National Book Festival is Saturday, September 1 in Washington, D.C. This celebration of books and reading features hundreds of special guests, including former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and world-renowned authors Amy Tan, Dave Eggers, Jennifer Egan, and Isabel Allende, among others. We encourage you to follow the day’s festivities using the hashtag #NatBookFest. You can also watch live coverage of author interviews on the PBS Facebook page.

Thousands of families will attend this free event to see authors and take part in engaging activities such as the Parade of States, an opportunity to learn about each state’s unique literary history. The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), with additional funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), makes it possible for a representative from each state to attend this event.

This year, the Colorado State Library’s Melissa Carlson will represent Colorado at the Parade of States. Kids can participate in the Parade of States by visiting each state’s table to receive a unique sticker or stamp for their passbook, which can then be turned in for prizes. Melissa will be sharing information about Colorado with these young visitors and handing out a sticker designed by CSL staff member Mary Bills.

The CSL sticker for the 2018 National Book Festival, designed by Mary Bills, features a literary marmot carrying a Check Out Colorado State Parks backpack.
