Mentoring

January is National Mentoring Month. Mentoring programs have been found to be very beneficial for troubled and/or underprivileged youth. For these youth, programs like Big Brothers/Big Sisters and other mentoring programs can have a lifelong impact. To learn more about mentoring programs in Colorado, and the positive effects of mentoring, see the following publications available from our library: Recidivism Findings for Washington’s Juvenile Mentoring Program (Colorado Judicial Branch, 2010); and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (University of Colorado at Boulder, 2006). See also the following State of Colorado websites: Colorado Best Practices: Mentoring; and Tony Grampsas Youth Services Program. And if you had a mentor, don’t forget to say thanks – Thursday, January 26 is Thank Your Mentor Day.
