Gardening in Colorado

Colorado gardeners are happy to see spring here and are always looking for help gardening in our climate! I would like to share one of my favorite publications in our collection, Best Perennials for the Rocky Mountains and High Plains, by Tannehill and Klett at CSU’s Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. It’s excellent for gardening in our area’s challenging conditions, with great pictures, descriptions, and a chart for average bloom times.

In addition, it may be surprising to learn that our government publications collection has many resources for the Colorado gardener available for loan. Some examples are:

Woody Landscape Plants for the High Plains, Agricultural Experiment Station
Annual Trial Garden Performance Report, CSU Department of Horticulture
WaterWise Landscaping Best Practices Manual, Dept. of Local Affairs

Searching our catalog will result in numerous titles, many of which are fact sheets from the experts at CSU Extension, also available online. Finally, check out the Horticulture On-line web site, which has valuable information. Happy gardening!
