Fishing Conditions and Updates

Colorado offers many great places to go fishing, in all parts of the state. If you’re interested in finding out about the current conditions at your favorite fishing spot, Colorado Parks & Wildlife (CPW) posts twice-monthly fishing reports on their website. You can also sign up to receive them by email. These reports include current updates on conditions at major fishing locations around Colorado, as well as lists of upcoming classes, tournaments, and other events.  Fishing conditions are also summarized on CPW’s website.

CPW also provides Fishery Survey Summaries for 127 fishing spots around the state. These summaries list the types of fish found in each location as well as tips on access, amenities (camping, boat ramps, etc.), regulations, and other basic information. And if you’re looking to find which waters were recently stocked with trout, a list is available in CPW’s Stocking Report.

If you’re looking for a great place to fish, explore CPW’s interactive Colorado Fishing Atlas or download their Fishing App. They also offer many publications, available for access through our library, that provide fishing information and tips, regulations, and ideas for places to go. Helpful publications include their annual Colorado Fishing regulations and property directory booklet (also available in Spanish) and the Colorado Outdoors Fishing Guide (available for checkout in print). Additionally, Fishing Close to Home provides a list of places to go fishing near the Denver Metro area.

Don’t forget, anyone 16 and older wanting to fish in Colorado – including both residents and non-residents – must obtain a valid fishing license. Licenses can be ordered online, over the phone, or at select sporting retailers. See CPW’s website for details.
