Spotlight on Sharing: Celebrate Spring

As part of the new Spotlight on Sharing initiative, we will be regularly featuring unique, interesting, and just plain awesome resource sharing happening in Colorado libraries.

The theme of this week’s post is Celebrate Spring. Now that spring is officially here, our public libraries are celebrating the season with nature walks, Earth Day activities, concerts, tips from master gardeners—even prom clothes! Here’s some resource sharing inspiration that’s perfect for spring:

Earth Day

Kevin Cook – Colorado Nature: Everything Wild and Wonderful

  • “Join Kevin Cook for his popular series exploring Colorado’s Nature. The series will enrich what you already know about Colorado wildlife, introducing you to kinds of wildlife you never knew were your neighbors, and detailing when, where, and how to find that wildlife.”

Noxious Weed Class

  • Garfield County Libraries, Rifle Branch
  • Tuesday, April 12, 6:00pm
  • “Steve Anthony, Vegetation Manager for Garfield County, along with Brandi Kaufmann from CSU Extension Office will present an informative class on identifying and dealing with noxious weeds. We will be covering turf and landscape weeds, range and pasture weeds, and escaped ornamentals.”

PlantTalk Bookmarks

  • Denver Botanic Gardens
  • Public libraries can request up to 200 PlantTalk bookmarks from the Denver Botanic Gardens. Please send your courier code, contact name, and the number of bookmarks you are requesting to Allaina.Wallace@botanicgardens.org. They have a limited amount of bookmarks, so act soon.
  • “Planttalk Colorado(tm) provides reliable, timely information on more than 500 horticultural topics. Planttalk Colorado(tm) is sponsored by Colorado State University Extension, Denver Botanic gardens, and the Green Industries of Colorado. The bookmarks provide a link to lots of information on their web site. Information on the web site is available in English and Spanish.”

Harmony in the Round Music Concert

  • Poudre River Public Library District, Harmony Library
  • Friday, April 1, 7:00 – 8:30pm
  • “Swing Into Spring” as we journey through the history of American jazz, presented by Ashlee Varner and musical guests. As we travel through each era, we will explore Dixieland traditions, swing of the 30s, bebop of the 40s, cool jazz and hard bop of the 50s, jazz fusion of the 60s and 70s, and modern styles that have transformed current jazz.

Prom Clothes

  • Two library districts have programs that provide prom attire for teens.
