Celebrate Creativity

Basalt Regional Library is hosting an Artist Reception and talk for Brenda English Manes, May 11 from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. While at the reception, view an exhibit of Brenda’s works, including photography, watercolor, and fine art enamel jewelry.

Every Thursday from May 31 to June 19, High Plains Library District wants to help kids in grades 6-12 Discover their Inner Author. During this weekly event at Farr Regional Library, teens and tweens will explore different genres of writing and realize their stories in book format. Registration opens May 14.

Do-It-Yourself

Learn the secrets of Gardening in the Fremont County Area, May 24 at 5:00 pm. The John C. Fremont Library welcomes organic gardeners Sis Harman and Joanne Mohr as they discuss how to amend your soil and grow organic vegetables best suited to the region.

Boulder Public Library’s popular U-Fix-It Clinic is an event where people bring broken items and work with volunteer coaches to learn hands-on repair skills. The next clinic is May 20 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the BLDG 61 Makerspace.

Engage Your Mind

Meditation can help calm the mind and reduce stress. Not sure how to get started? Jefferson County Public Library is offering Mindful Meditation 101, May 15 from 6:30 to 7:30 at the Arvada Library.

UNC University Libraries have over 40 board games available for checkout to UNC students. It’s a fun way to keep them engaged with the library, especially during the summer break.

Karen Gilroy will present a special program at Hayden Public Library: How Emotions Affect Your Health and Happiness, May 16 at 6:00 pm.

Hana Zittel from Denver Public Library is the recipient of the Allie Beth Martin Award for demonstrating extraordinary range and depth of knowledge in reader’s advisory matters, impacting library users and non-users locally and nationwide. PLA President Pam Smith will recognize Hana at the ALA Annual Conference in June.

The Coloradoan recently featured two stories about Poudre River Public Library District: “From coworking to 3D printing, Fort Collins libraries go beyond books” shares info about “libraries as more than books” and mentions their 10th anniversary as a Library District; “Fort Collins libraries prioritize security while remaining open to all” discusses how Old Town Library is working with other community organizations to handle security and behavioral issues.

Poudre River Public Library District wants to help you Find Donors for Your NonProfit. During the workshop on May 16, 3:00 pm at Harmony Library, you’ll learn how to use the library’s Reference USA database to search for donors.

Backyard grilling season is the perfect time to learn about the History of the Barbecue. Pikes Peak Library District will host soul food scholar Adrian Miller for a discussion of the origins of this American cuisine, as well as a tour of regional barbecue styles. Join Adrian at Penrose Library on May 12 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm.
