Beat Cabin Fever

In 2018, Grand County Library District patrons will be able to check out passes to parks, museums, concerts, and even local ski areas through the Access Grand program. The program is sponsored by Friends of Grand County Library.

Bud Werner Memorial Library’s Winter Reading Program 2018 is a community challenge. Shark Tank investor Mark Cuban will donate $25,000 to First Book if the Steamboat community meets their goal of reading 200,018 minutes. The program is open to all ages. Register online.

Winter blues got you down? Learn to better manage your moods with education, compassion, and meditation. Broomfield Library is offering the class as part of their Let’s Talk series, January 20 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Register online.

Eagle Valley Library District’s High Country Speaker Series continues with Health in the High Country, January 23 to March 8. Five speakers will explore what it means to be “healthy” in relation to ourselves, our communities, nature, and technology.

Vail Public Library’s Skiing Book Club meets monthly to talk books and ski the slopes. The next meeting is January 12 at 11:00 am—meet at the top of Eagle’s Nest Gondola!

Musical Celebrations

CU’s University Libraries is hosting its second International Talent Show on January 25. Participants are encouraged to perform music, dance, and poetry that celebrates the diversity of CU’s staff and students. The top three acts will receive prizes. Register online.

Celebrate the grand re-opening of CU Boulder’s Howard B. Waltz Music Library, January 23 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Come enjoy some music and refreshments while you tour the newly renovated library.

Just for Teens

Pikes Peak Library District is accepting applications for their 11th Annual Teen Art Contest. Teens in grades 6-12 are encouraged to submit their original artwork on the theme “Hidden Beauty.” Artwork will be displayed in one of three PPLD libraries in April 2018.

Hack your notebook while learning about circuits. Teens are invited to Poudre River’s Old Town Library on January 6 to create light-up artwork on their notebooks using copper tape, LED stickers, and batteries. Registration required.

Children & Teen Programs

December 31 is the last day to vote for One Book 4 Colorado. Spread the word! Anyone can vote on the book that will be given to all Colorado 4-year-olds in April.

Encourage teens at your library to enter the 2017 Teen Video Challenge, sponsored by the Collaborative Summer Learning Program. This year’s theme is music. Contest deadline is Feb 28; winners will be announced in April 2018.
