Typically one does not associate the word doctor with fabulous storytelling of complex and emotional stories . But one should, as the highly regarded Khaled Hosseini is an example of just that!

Khaled Hosseini was born in 1965 in Afghanistan. Khaled’s father was a diplomat and the family spent time in Tehran during 1973, and then Paris beginning in 1976. Their planned return to Afghanistan in 1980 was made impossible by the Soviet Union’s invasion of the country. The Hosseini family then sought political asylum in the United States and moved to San Jose, CA. Khaled graduated from Santa Clara University with a BS in Biology in 1988, attended UC San Diego earning a Doctorate in Medicine in 1993. During the years for 1996-2004, he was an internist. In 2001, Khaled decided to write a novel. Kite Runner was published in 2003 and became an international best seller. A Thousand Splendid Suns debuted at #1 when it was released in 2007. Kite Runner was made into a successful movie in 2011 and two years later, And The Mountains Echoed was published.

Our collection contains two of Khaled’s three books. Both are splendid for discussion!
