CALCON Virtual Conference: Trustee Track (Sept 10-12)

This post is contributed on behalf of the Colorado Association of Libraries Program Committee. Updated September 5, 2020.

The Colorado Association of Libraries Conference is going virtual! This includes a full day Trustee Track, as well as other content of interest to library trustees. CALCON is the premier statewide annual professional development event for libraries of all types. Please share this with your library board, and encourage board members from your library to register and attend at least one day of CALCON. Your registration for this event helps support the work of the association year round.

Colorado Association of Libraries Virtual Conference
Trustee Track & Trustee Registration

September 10-12, 2020
Registration is open now

The 2020 Colorado Association of Libraries Conference (CALCON) will be a 100% virtual event. Full conference registration is only $100 per individual for public library trustees, board members, and library commissioners. The Colorado State Library will be offering 5 paid trustee registrations, with applications due by Monday August 3.

CALCON includes a full day Trustee Track, dedicated to the interests of public library boards (for both district and non-district libraries). Many of the general breakout sessions throughout the conference will also be of interest to library trustees. Trustee Track sessions will also be of interest to library management. The full conference includes 3 keynote speakers, awards, and virtual networking opportunities. Conference registration also provides access to recordings of all conference sessions, for 70+ hours of professional development. The Trustee Track will take place Friday, September 11. A highlight of daily events of interest to trustees is included below.

Over the past 5 years I have been able to attend at least one day of the CALCON conference and found great ideas and beneficial contributions from others to help me fulfill my role as a Library Trustee.  In addition, I have been privileged to give a couple of presentations and participate in a panel discussion.  Taking advantage of these opportunities, I believe, have helped make me a better representative on the Board and to our community.  The added benefit to a virtual conference will be to view in our own time, if the designated sessions are not convenient, and no worries about deciding which of two simultaneous sessions to attend.  Please strongly consider registering and participating in this year’s CALCON.

-John E. Krueger, President, Estes Valley Public Library District Board of Trustees
