How to Identify, Prioritize, and Tackle Community Needs

Presentation for CALCON 2020

Our communities face complex challenges like loneliness, depression, suicide, health issues, addiction, abuse, the rising cost of living, job security, racism, global warming, and adapting to a changing world. Oh, and Hello Pandemic!!! AHHHHHggguuuu…..

These issues can make us all feel overwhelmed and uncomfortable. Should libraries work on these issues? We think yes. Can libraries do something? We think yes. It is hard work, but you don’t have to do it alone. If you think your library is too small or under-resourced or if it is too hard to figure out what to focus on right now, this hands-on workshop is for you.

We’ll teach you a simple process for how to identify, prioritize, and tackle community needs that you can immediately apply. We’ll have a data nerd, a rural libraries champion, and a staff learning pro in this session to support your work. We’re going to keep it real, cause our world is bananas now.
