Mind Your (Small) Business

Join Garfield County Library each month for Business and Breakfast: Small Budgets and Big Returns, which convenes next on September 10 at 9:00 am. This session will show how both Google and Facebook offer advertising platforms that enable a small business to laser-focus its marketing efforts. Whether targeting new customers or trying to activate a return customer, the advanced demographic targeting abilities within these systems are just the ticket for a local business. Opening your own business is doable, and Jefferson County Public Library can help with Start-Up 101: What You Need to Know BEFORE You Consider Starting a Business! Get answers to the questions you have about becoming an entrepreneur on September 10 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Join Mesa County Libraries for  Business Connect @ GJ Chamber September 18 at 2:00 for  walk-up assistance with ReferenceUSA and other business resources available through the library. This event takes place  at the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce (360 Grand Ave). Bring your library card, or sign up for one at the walk-up table.

Falling Up

All ages are invited to Pine River Library’s annual Zucchini Festival on September 14 at 12:00 pm. Celebrate the zucchini harvest with the whole community. Enjoy activities, a zucchini potluck, ugly zucchini contest, zucchini decorating and carving, zucchini olympics, live music, free food, and more. Phew, I will never again misspell zucchini!

The Cañon City Public Library’s adult literacy program, “Squash Illiteracy,” can help if you or someone you know struggles with reading or is unable to read. Volunteer tutors will work one on one with participants. This program is free and the hours are flexible. Call 719-269-9020 or stop by the library to sign up.

Join Longmont Public Library for Family Storytime: Harvest Day a special harvest-themed story time with friends from Growing Gardens on September 6 from 11:00-11:30 am. Read books about how food is grown, the variety of delicious fruits and vegetables that come from the garden, and get a chance to taste some produce from Growing Gardens’ Food Project Farm in Longmont. Yummmm! Appropriate for all ages – no registration required.

After you enjoy the bounty of late summer/early autumn, join Poudre River Public Library District for Putting Your Garden to Rest on September 25 at 12:30 pm. Get recommendations of what to do in the fall to get ready for winter for all aspects of your landscape, including the vegetable garden, lawn, trees and shrubs, and perennials. Putting in some effort in the fall makes for an easier spring!

How to Make It Easier and Faster to Learn New Things w/ Pattern Research on September 17 from 11:00am-12:00pm. Topics include why workplace instructors need to be better learners, breaking information down into digestible chunks, why hands-on learning is crucial, learning on the fly, and tips for teaching technology. This webinar was created for the Colorado Department of Corrections Libraries and designed to be of particular use to all correctional staff who work with adults.

Learn the “How” and “Why” of genealogical research with Introduction to Genealogy: A Seminar at Bud Werner Memorial Library on September 8 from 9:30am to 3:30pm. Designed for the novice genealogist and family history researcher, this seminar will provide an introduction to a variety of topics, including access to genealogy collections/databases, examples of research methods, discussions on discovery, and best practices for preserving genealogy collections.

Adults are invited to Jefferson County Public Library for  Buying & Selling Online: eBay and Craigslist on September 12 at 1:00 pm. Understand how to safely buy and sell on e-commerce platforms Craigslist and eBay. Participants will need basic computer and internet skills as well as an email address. Registration required.
