Reading and Writing

The inaugural meeting of Aurora Public Library‘s International Reading Club will take place at Martin Luther King, Jr. Library on Saturday, November 4 at 3:00 pm, then one Saturday per month thereafter. At each meeting, participants will read and discuss a short story based in another region of the world while sampling some food from that region. Bud Werner Memorial Library is partnering with Off the Beaten Path Bookstore for NaNoWriMo, the National Novel Writing Month that happens each November. Authors can meet at the bookstore for five Write-In events throughout the month; the library is also available to aspiring novelists.

Get Creative

Learn tatting, the art of lacemaking. Randy Houtz returns to Ignacio Community Library on November 2 at 5:00 pm to teach tatting for all skill levels.

Learn stop-motion animation at the Broomfield Library Discovery Lab. Every Tuesday and Thursday in November from 4:00 to 5:00 pm, kids ages 10-15 can use iPads to produce their own stop-motion animated videos.

Halloween and Heroes

Enjoy a night of spooky stories at the Council Tree Library in Poudre River Public Library District on October 28 from 7:30 to 8:30 pm. The Spellbinders will entertain attendees ages 6 to 106 with haunting Halloween tales.

For aspiring superheroes in grades K-5, Aurora Public Library is offering Justice League Training at Tallyns Reach on November 4 at 3:00 pm. Learn the art of the alter ego costume quick-change, and participate in an obstacle course. Register on their website.

Community Connections

Basalt Regional Library is hosting a Citizenship Clinic on Saturday, October 28 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Besides attending the workshop, participants will have access to forms and attorney review. See their event page for details.

Lafayette Public Library will host a presentation by Gerry Morrell of the Lafayette Historical Society about the Columbine Mine Massacre of 1927. Join Mr. Morrell on November 4 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Learn about staying safe in the great outdoors with Know Before You Go: Avalanche Education at Fraser Valley Library on November 1 at 5:30 pm. With some basic safety tips, you can have fun in Colorado’s majestic mountains this winter.

Libraries in the News

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel published a story on the collaboration between Mesa County Libraries and the Museums of Western Colorado to digitize thousands of local history interviews. The recordings, which until now were only on cassette tape, are now available digitally on the Mesa County Libraries website.
