Tricks & Treats

Head down to the Lamar Public Library parking lot on October 30 from 5:00-7:00 pm for a socially distanced Trunk-or-Treat!  Trunk-or-Treat is a Halloween tradition in which cars get just as decked out as candy-seekers. Participants bring their cars to a central location, and then decorate them with some kind of thematic flair. Then, costumed trunk-or-treaters roam from vehicle to vehicle, collecting candy and Halloween treats as they go.

Longmont Public Library hosts Coast to Coast Ghosts on November 4 from 7:00-8:30 pm. Join author and local ghost hunter Richard Estep as he talks about some of America’s most haunted places and what he has been up to since his last talk in 2019. For ages 16 and over – registration required. Click HERE to register.

Join Wilkinson Public Library for a Teen Holiday Movie Night on October 31 from 5:30-9:00 pm out on the patio. Costumes encouraged! There will be a costume contest -1st place receives a prize! Snacks will be provided, but be sure to bring warm clothing, blankets, sleeping bags, etc. Registration required. Weather permitting.

Join Arapahoe Libraries on October 23 at 7:00 pm from Pop Culture Trivia: Spooky Edition. Test your pop culture knowledge of all things spooky and scary. Assemble your team or compete on your own. Go head-to-head with your fellow competitors in this friendly game and let your love for pop culture show. For teens, tweens and adults. Families are welcome.

Historic ballot box patented in 1884 on display at Eagle Public Library | Vail Daily
Along with the delivery of ballots, the Eagle County Clerk’s Office and Eagle County Historical Society delivered a little bit of election history this week. An early day ballot box, patented in 1884, is on display in the History Department of the Eagle Public Library through the election season.

History Colorado (HC) is participating in the Institute for Library and Museum Studies’ Museums for Digital Learning  initiative, which is focused on building the museum field’s capacity to connect through teachers and students through the creation of thematic resources kits with digital assets from the Field Museum in Chicago and HC.

Denver’s Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera show will test limits of patience and planning | The Know
When Denver Art Museum (DAM) announced the Mexican Modernism exhibition in late 2019, no one anticipated the logistical challenges that come with a global pandemic. The show premieres on October 25, and DAM anticipates capacity will be 25% of what it normally would be.

Libraries Transforming Communities: Focus on Small and Rural LIbraries
The American Library Association (ALA) invites libraries in small and rural communities to apply for grant funding to help them address issues of concern in their communities. Up to 650 U.S. libraries in small and rural communities will receive $3,000 each to tackle issues ranging from media literacy to COVID-19 safety to unemployment. Grants will be awarded in two waves in 2020 and 2021. Applications will be accepted from Sept. 21 to Dec. 2, 2020.
