Writing Songs, Poetry, and Prose
Lyons Regional Library is celebrating Writing in November (WIN) with a month of programs aimed at supporting writers of all genres.
- Writing Workshop with author Kayann Short. Appropriate for all ages and genres. November 11, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, at Stonebridge Farm in Lyons.
- Talk about Writing with author David Baron. This session will be geared towards science fiction writing. November 15 , 6:30 pm, at the library.
- Traditional and Self-Publishing Workshop with Sally King and McCourt Thomas. The authors will discuss their experiences with different forms of publishing. November 29, 6:30 pm, at the library.
- NaNoWriMo Come Write In official site. The library is providing a collaborative creative community space for the writers participating in National Novel Writing Month. November 4,18, & 25 from 10:30 am-12:30 pm.
Local artist and poet Burt Baldwin will read from his latest collection of poems, Geopoetica, at Ignacio Community Library on November 16 at 6:00pm.
Aspen-based songwriter, producer, and recording artist Steve Skinner will lead a songwriters’ workshop appropriate for all skill levels. Join him at the Fraser Valley Library on November 29 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. Register online or call 970-726-5689.
Alexandra Fuller, author of the One Book Steamboat title, The Legend of Colton H. Bryant, will visit the Bud Werner Memorial Library November 7 at 6:30 pm. The author will join attendees for an evening of conversation about her book, which takes place on the Wyoming plains.
Calling all Austen Fans
Join Vail Public Library in November for events celebrating Jane Austen’s first novel, “Northanger Abbey.” Programs will include a movie night on November 1, a book talk and lecture on November 8, Regency period 3D printing projects, and themed storytimes. Visit their Austen page for all event listings.
Dancing was an important part of social life during the Regency period. Now you can learn some of the dances that Jane Austen may have performed at Basalt Regional Library this Saturday November 4. Aspen Dance Connection will provide instruction beginning at 3:00 pm.

Learn the history of henna and create your own unique henna design. This popular teen program is back—this time for adults—at HPLD’s Centennial Park Library on November 8 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Space is limited and registration is required.
Submit your printed materials, 3D objects, kinetic, and interactive projects for a Maker Made Exhibition at Boulder Public Library’s Canyon Gallery and BLDG 61 makerspace. Submissions are due by November 11. A gallery opening of the event will be held December 15 at 6:00 pm, and items will be on display through the end of January 2018.
Bring some inspiration to your holiday table this year. Join Chef Anthony Reichenbach at Delta County’s Hotchkiss Library on November 9 at 3:00 pm to learn how to cook turkey roulade with sausage stuffing. Library event calendar.

From American Libraries Magazine: Anastasia Montoya, an intern in PLA’s Inclusive Internship Initiative, completed her project at the Sand Creek Library in Colorado Springs. She hosted a community discussion to show that the library is a safe place to talk about racial stereotypes. Read more about the Inclusive Internship Initiative.
The Check Out State Parks Program was featured this week on Debbie’s Deals, a series from Denver 7 news.
Grand County Library‘s column in Sky-Hi News promoted the library’s Lynda.com subscription, funded by State Grants to Libraries.
The Alamosa News published a story about the Moffat School District Library using State Grants to Libraries funds to purchase new books and digital materials for their collection.
