Brain Games

Are you Smarter than a Librarian? As it gets darker and colder, brighten up the evening and show off your smarts with a friendly game of virtual trivia with the Longmont Public Library on November 23 from 7:00-8:30 pm. Games will consist of five rounds with five questions each and are self-scoring – no prizes except for bragging rights! Best for adults and older kids. Registration required. Click HERE to register.

Have you ever wondered how to solve a Rubik’s cube? Join Boulder Public Library for Cubing Away Corona on November 14 from 1:00-2:00 pm. Learn how to complete the first level of solving a Rubik’s cube from a Guiness Book of World Records holder! Free Rubik’s cube for all Tweens and Teens that register for this event!

Meet friends, new and old, to GET OUTDOORS with Pine River Library and explore the beauty of Bayfield! Join an all-levels and all-ages adventure group and help plan monthly outings throughout the year. Adventure outdoors in a safe, socially distanced way every third Friday of the month at 10 am. Participants need to register for the program each month using the sign up form so they can be notified of full details or any changes that might occur due to weather etc.

Dolores Public Library is excited to introduce The Dolores River Ramblings, a collaborative community art and writing project. Check out a Dolores River Ramblings book and add a recipe, recommendations, travel stories, pet illustration, and more to these books which will remain available until they are completed.

Bud Werner Memorial Library presents Cinema Steamboat – a pop-up drive-in film festival showcasing storytelling with altitude on November 21 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Bundle up and drive into the Emerald Parking Lot for a single evening celebration of short films that represent everything from animation to documentary to drama.

Issues & Understanding

November 15 – 22 is Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. Hunger, food insecurity, homelessness and housing insecurity are on the rise and Jefferson County Public Library hosts a Community Conversation on Hunger & Homelessness on November 18 from 6:00-7:30 pm. Join the discussion to hear from representatives of local non-profits, county agencies and community coalitions, ask questions, and discuss ideas for working together toward solutions.

Mesa County Libraries invites area residents to Fruita for Equality – What is Implicit Bias? on November 14 at 4:30 pm. Discussion will be centered around an exploration of personal implicit biases. Ahead of the event, participants are asked to take the Harvard Implicit Bias test to identify their own implicit biases. The implicit bias tests are available in multiple languages, and a Spanish-language interpreter will be available in the virtual event.

Library to host ‘Boomer Series’ | The Mountain Mail
Salida Regional Library will host “The Boomer Series,” a five-week series focused on topics specifically for people ages 56 and older. Topics to be covered in the five sessions are estate planning, health and wellness, medical forms and insurance, nutrition and social security.

When Adams County Taxpayers Voted Down Funding for a New Library, a Local Foundation Stepped up to Provide a resource to Promote Literacy | Your Hub 
Last November, Ballot Issue 6A that would have funded the building of an Anything Library in the Reunion neighborhood of Commerce City was voted down by less than 4,000 votes. The Reunion Community Foundation hopes the placement of Little Free Libraries in public areas will help to subsidize the neighborhood void of not having a traditional library.

Colorado libraries programming are recognized nationally by American Libraries: Belmar Library’s virtual Dungeons & Dragons program is featured in Escape for the Isolated, and Colorado State University Libraries’ get’s a shout out in Collecting Coronavirus Stories for their project encouraging students, staff, and faculty to document their personal experiences during the coronavirus outbreak and contribute them to the university archives.
