AAPI Heritage Month

During the month of May we pay tribute to the generations of Asian American and Pacific Islanders who have enriched America’s history.

Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with Pikes Peak Library District’s special Virtual Storytime on May 20 from 1:30-1:00 pm. Children’s Staff from around the district will invite you to join in a sing-along and then read a children’s book. Videos are not live, so you can always view the videos whenever it’s convenient for you.

In honor of Asian / Pacific American Heritage Month, Garfield County Libraries invite kids ages 7+ to a virtual workshop on Chinese Calligraphy. Join San Francisco-based calligraphy artist Jo Jo Liu, board member of the San Francisco Chinese Arts Association, in this time honored artistic tradition. In this bilingual event with simultaneous Spanish interpretation, you can choose to listen and participate in your preferred language.

Join Boulder Public Library for AniMAY, a month-long celebration of all things anime! Create cosplay accessories, experience a tour of Japan through the eyes of Studio Ghibli, learn to draw manga, receive awesome prize bags, and more! Events include Anime 101, Hey Let’s Go Anime Club, Cosplay 101, and much more.

Pick ‘n’ Mix

Periods and menstruation are natural bodily functions that through time have become taboo. In an effort to destigmatize and embrace our bodies High Plains Library District invites first time menstruating teens to pick up a Period Party Pack. This pack will include various sanitary products and educational resources to support you in this change. Limit one pack per menstruating teen – available while supplies last.

Join Clearview Library District and meet the people in your neighborhood with a special Virtual Storytime on May 11 from 10:30-11:00 am! Community helpers will build pre-reading skills by reading stories and making a craft that relates to their job. This program will take place monthly. May’s guest reader is Katherine Mercier, Museum Educator for the Town of Windsor.

Join Mesa County Libraries at 5:00 pm on May 7 for the Fruita for Equality Community Book Read and Discussion Kickoff Event. This open-house community discussion on the topic of equality, race, diversity, and inclusivity within the community is part of a larger series where the community will come together to read and discuss. Listen to stories from your neighbors, share ideas about change, and get involved! This event is for all ages.

The global pandemic did not stop the 26th Annual Ouray Ice Climbing Competition. Ouray Public Library is featuring a new short film with heart stopping moments from the competition and history of the Ice Park. Check out Topping Out: Race to the 2021 Ouray Ice Climbing Competition.

Aurora Public Library invites adults to Library Game Night on May 21 from 8:00-9:00 pm for One Night Ultimate Werewolf. Play the classic Werewolf party game (also known as Mafia) virtually, where you have to guess which player amongst you is a bad guy. No  supplies are needed but a microphone is handy.

Mobile Device Lending: What Works and What Doesn’t | May 11 @ 10:00 am MT
Join Carrie and Meg from Grand County Public Library (Moab) as they share their experiences with Mobile Device Lending both as a pandemic response and as regular library service. GCPL has been circulating mobile devices since 2014 with a substantial increase in offerings early 2020 in direct response to COVID-19. In the pursuit of creative ways to address access and connection issues in the community, they’ve stopped expecting people to visit the library and instead strive to offer library services at times and locations convenient to them. This webinar will discuss collaboration with partners, connecting with people in creative ways, learning from mistakes and having fun doing it!

The percent of remote workers is expected to double this year and more than two thirds of employers expect remote work to be a permanent part of their staffing plans. Given the significant role that remote work will play in our evolving workforce, the Colorado Workforce Development Council, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade have enlisted the online expertise of CSU Global to help prepare workers and managers to thrive in a virtual team environment.
Two separate online certificate programs have been designed to help workers and managers alike prepare to succeed in a virtual workplace environment.
