Friday Grab Bag, May 31, 2019

The Friday Grab Bag is a weekly series that highlights fun, unique, and interesting happenings in Colorado libraries, and includes news from the Colorado State Library.

Before we open the Friday Grab Bag, take a moment to consider nominating a person, a library, or a program for a Colorado Association of Libraries award. It is for all sizes and shapes of libraries and library adjacent companies and folks. Father’s Day

Surprise dad with a  homemade spice rub and stamped washer key-chain from Berthoud Community Library’s  Crafters Corner: Father’s Day Edition on June 14 from 3:00-5:00 pm. As always, card-making supplies will be on hand! This is a free event, but please call and register (970-532-2757) to ensure there are enough supplies for everyone.

Crafters Corner: Fathers Day Edition

Join Broomfield Library on June 12 from 1:00-2:00 pm for DIY GIFTS FOR DAD (OR FAVORITE ADULT). Make a DIY (Do-It-Yourself) gift just in time for Father’s Day! Registration required.

The Colorado Railroad Museum invites you to celebrate all the wonderful fathers in our lives this June 15 and 16 with free admission for dads on Father’s Day Weekend!

Denver Public Library invites kids ages 3 and up (accompanied by an adult) to Kids Craft: Photo Cube on June 14 at 3:00 pm. Decorate a wooden cube to display your favorite photo on and give it as a Father’s Day gift.  Card making and gift bags will also be provided.

Get some dad time in at Clearview Library District’s Father’s Day Fun event. Enjoy arts, crafts, and games for ages 2-5 and their dads or father figure on June 15 from 10:30-11:15 am. No registration required. Contact Karen for more information at

Role-Play Roundup

Are you looking for friends to play role playing games with?  Join Eagle Valley Library District on the second Tuesday of every month (from 4:00-6:00 pm or 6:00-8:00 pm) for Dungeons and Dragons. Adults and Teens are invited to Douglas County Library for Game Club June 2 from 12:00-4:45 pm. Drop in and play popular as well as unique RPG (Role-Play) and board games.

Westminster Public Library invites teens to try their hands at role-playing adventure with Dungeons and Dragons Club on June 8 from 12:00-4:00 pm. Choose from a variety of characters in a world of monsters, magic and destiny.

Join Clearview Library District and a band of adventurers on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month for an evening Dungeons and Dragons! Pick n’ Mix

Do you have your summer reading lined up? Whether you’re going to be sitting by the pool, walking along the beach, or just hangin’ on the porch, let Denver Public Library’s readers advisory experts and publisher reps find the perfect book for you and your book club at Summer Reading (and Listening) Book Buzz on June 15 at 2:00 pm. This event includes book giveaways as well, so don’t miss it!

Georgetown Cultural Arts (in collaboration with Think 360 Arts for Learning, Georgetown Community School, and Clear Creek County Library District) is launching 1874 School Day on June 1 from 11:00 am-3:00 pm, an inaugural celebration of arts, culture, and history. Participate in a mural project, dress up for a keepsake image, bring a favorite family recipe (potluck style) to share, and much more.

Grand County Library District invites students going into 3rd grade and up to Grand County Comix Club with Mr. V on June 10 at 3:00. Learn to draw comics and earn free comics to take home.  Comics will be displayed in the library and may even be featured in the Grand Gazette! Stick around for giveaways of action figures and autographed comics as well! Registration required.

Speaking of comics, Woodruff Memorial Library in LaJunta hosts teen event Comic Book Super Heros with Chrissie Stork of Otero Junior College’s Literature and Humanities department on June 14 from 1:00-3:00 pm. Contact the library to register (719-384-4612).

Are you snarky? Do you enjoy criticizing movies? If so, and you are a teen,  join Louisville Library for Snark Attack Tuesday on June 4 from 4:00-5:30 pm! ‘Enjoy’ cringe-worthy movies, videos, and TV shows that are just lovably bad. No registration required.
