Magic & Puppets

All ages are invited to Magic is from Mars, Juggling is from Jupiter with High Plains Library District on June 19 from 6:00-7:00 pm. Watch Ann Lincoln’s high energy outer space themed show filled with as much laughter and as many awesome magic and juggling routines as possible.

Join Mesa County Libraries for Rocky Mountain Puppets on July 11 at 10:00 am! Meghan Casey of Rocky Mountain Puppets and friends thrill audiences with a fun and silly ventriloquist act. This performance is offered at no charge as part of the Summer Entertainment Series and Summer Reading at Mesa County Libraries.

Las Animas-Bent County Library District hosts a Magic Show at 4:00 pm on June 11 as part of their Summer Reading Program Kick-Off. Don’t miss it!

Every Friday in June and July preschool aged kids and their families can enjoy a free, fun and family-friendly performance at the Broomfield Auditorium courtesy of Broomfield Library’s Fabulous Fridays series! Enjoy puppets, dance along to music from around the world, be amazed by performing animals, and experience spectacular science! FREE tickets are required and will be available in the Auditorium lobby beginning at 9:30 am the day of the program, which begins at 10:30.

Salida Regional Library hosts Party People Magicians on June 12 from 10:00-11:00 am. There will be tons of fun, but kids and adults alike will learn three very valuable things about libraries that will stick with them for the rest of their lives.

Join Berthoud Community Library on June 19 at 2:00 pm for Youth Wednesdays. This event will feature Ann Lincoln, who will perform Magic, Juggling, and Comedy! Youth Wednesday events will be held at the New Freedom Outreach Center, located at 250 Mountain Ave.

Explore the art of movement with Anythink Libraries’ Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Workshop on June 8 at 11:00 am, featuring one of Denver’s premiere performance dance groups. Appropriate for kids ages 5-12. No registration required. * Note that due to a maintenance issue at the York Street branch, this workshop will be held at the Skyview Campus Welcome Center.

Hula at the Library! Hula dancers from the Ananda Foley Studio in Durango will be performing at the Ignacio Community Library on June 8 at 3:00 pm. The group will also be giving a presentation on aspects of Hawaiian culture that pertain to their dances, and attendees can also learn some basic dance moves.

Youth ages 7 to 12 are invited to Boulder Public Library for Eunice Embodiment on June 8 at 11:00 am.  This workshop explores dance, yoga and mindfulness within the context of nature. Engaging fun movement improvisations, games, and challenges, reveal how nature brings us to life, and calming, imaginative visualizations and meditations facilitate connection to the self, earth, and sky. No dance experience necessary, but space is limited so be sure to register.

Adults of all abilities should come prepared to sing and move for Pikes Peak Library District’s AFRICAN PERCUSSION AND DANCE program on June 10 from 10:00-11:00 am. Dr. Wanda and Ron Cousar will engage participants with African percussion instruments, music and dance. Please call 719-597-7070 for more information.

Thanks to this year’s Colorado State Library grant, the Alamosa Public Library has created an adventure backpack for children. The Library’s ‘Bird Watching Backpack’ is perfect for children to take on walks, other outdoor vacation adventures, or to use right in their own backyards.

Join Gunnison County Libraries on June 28 at 6:00 pm for “THE RIDER & THE WOLF” FILM SCREENING & PANEL DISCUSSION. Screen the feature documentary about the life and mysterious disappearance of Mountain Bike Hall of Fame cyclist Mike Rus, who  helped form the sport of mountain biking in the USA with the stoke and technical innovations he put into action in the mountain towns of Crested Butte and Salida. He went missing without a trace in 2009 in a remote part of Colorado. The mystery remains. Join the filmmaker, producer, and other key individuals from the film in a panel discussion following the film.

Mancos Public Library presents The Wattles, the Faunces, and the Wetherills: Three Early Mancos Families Revealed Through Their Letters on June 20 at 7:00 pm with Dr. Lynne Marie Getz, Professor of History at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina and author of Abolitionists, Doctors, Ranchers, and Writers: A Family Journey through American History.

Join Cortez Public Library for the first ever Cortez Literary Festival on June 7 from 6:00-7:30 pm, with special guest author Ann Hillerman. The festival continues all day on June 8 and features Graphic Recorder Heather Martinez, vendors, mini-workshops, food, and Friends of the Library Book Sale Extravaganza. Jefferson County Public Library invites all ages to meet the bilingual pop and hip-hop group 2MX2, learn about the Latino roots that guide them, then play around with auto tune and enjoy a short performance on June 8 at 2:00 pm. Hello World: 2MX2 Interactive Live Show brings the artistic achievements of peoples from near and far directly to the library.

Museums and Libraries in the News

Sandy Irwin, library director at Durango Public Library, invites you to Let your local library become your neighborhood hangout in her recent piece in the Durango Herald and discusses the library space as social infrastructure – a place where you feel comfortable, familiar, and welcomed.

Bicycle Retailer reports that Denver Public Library branches now offer bicycle repair kits for checkout. The program started last year at seven branches and expanded to all 26 branches beginning in May. It was created by the Denver Community Active Living Coalition and funded through two grants totaling nearly $6,000 from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Red Feather Lakes Community Library says a fond farewell to two longtime volunteers that helped shape the library in Tales of growth and tales of loss, published in the North Forty News.

The Western Slope Now reports on Free Museum Admission For Active Duty Military at the Museum of the West and Dinosaur Journey via the Blue Star Museums program. All service members need to bring is a current military I.D. and they and five family members can get in free.
