Community Engagement

Poudre River Public Library District’s new Curiosity Pass Program is your ticket to culture, arts, and entertainment! The Curiosity Pass program provides library cardholders with free admission to 12 different museums, art galleries, attractions, and other cultural institutions along the Front Range and Wyoming. Passes can be borrowed from the library online via an online reservation system, and used to visit the participating venues. Each venue pass allows admission for multiple people, making it a great option for friends and families.

A dash of kindness goes a long way, so spend a bit of time each month at  Broomfield Library’s The Gift of Giving events. Create items for people (and creatures) in need. Each participant will receive a community service completion certificate! Registration is required.

• Sending Smiles (February 2 @2:00 pm): Design cards that will be sent to hospitalized children through Sending Smiles.
• Pause for Pets (March 3 @ 2:00 pm): Design a no-sew dog toy to be donated to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.
• Bee-utiful Broomfield (April 5 @ 2:00 pm): Design bee houses to encourage rest and relaxation for migrating bees.
• Meals on Wheels (May 3 @ 2:00 pm): Design greeting cards to be delivered to Broomfield Meals on Wheels recipients.

The Trailblazer Theatre Company and Lamar Public Library will be presenting Our Town: Lamar Colorado, a local twist on the Thornton Wilder classic! Our Town Auditions will be held on  January 23, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. January 24, from 6:30-9 p.m., and January 25, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Drop-ins are welcome, but you can also sign up for a specific time to avoid waiting. You can read at the audition or bring a prepared piece.

Grants & Funding

Do you love teen lit? Do you have a student or teen you know who geeks out over teen lit? Grants are now available for teens and adults to attend the 32nd Annual Colorado Teen Literature Conference on April 18, 2020. This annual conference offers breakout sessions that have appeal for teens, educators, librarians, and anyone interested in teen literature. The deadline for all grants is January 31and  applicants will be notified of final decisions by email on February 2. Click HERE for available grant and submission guidelines.

CLiC is offering a limited number of scholarships to cover the cost of registration for the 2020 Spring Workshops.  All you have to do is apply! The deadline to apply is February 5. Click HERE for more information on workshop dates and locations, and apply for a scholarship HERE.

The Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection (CHNC) has announced that the 2020 program to support the addition of new historic news in the CHNC is now open for applications.  The Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection New Content Support Program for newspaper digitization is designed to help cultural heritage organizations across our state increase free online access to historic community news through the CHNC. The CATS (Children and Teen Services special interest group of the Colorado Association of Libraries) Winter Workshop is coming up on March 2 at Library 21c in Colorado Springs and the Colorado State Library is providing 6 scholarships covering the workshop registration fee. Library staff, volunteers, partners, and students are all eligible for a scholarship. For more information and to apply, click HERE. The scholarship application deadline is January 29.

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is one of the most celebrated and colorful holidays on Earth and all ages are invited to Nederland Community Library to celebrate this festive occasion on January 25 from 5:00-7:00 pm  with a craft and a screening of Kung Fu Panda!

Celebrate the Chinese New Year with the whole family, games, crafts and snacks at Jefferson County Public Library on January 25 from 2:00-3:00 pm.

All ages are invited to join Aurora Public Library for Chinese New Year Dragon Puppets on January 25 at 2:00 pm. Make dancing dragon puppets to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Great Outdoors

Join Eagle Valley Library district on January 28 at 6:30 pm for a Stargazing Night with expert Anne Holland. Learn about the night sky, take a look through a NASA telescope and sip on hot chocolate. Please dress warmly. This program is in partnership with the Space Science Institute of Boulder, and the National Center for Interactive Learning, and is weather dependent.

Get outdoors and find out how the story goes on the trail with one of Delta County Libraries’ StoryWalks. The January-February StoryWalk® book on the trail at Crawford State Park is Tacky and the Winter Games by Helen Lester. When you are done with the story, visit the Crawford Library for a related activity.

The Yampa Valley community is invited to join the Bud Werner Memorial Library and the North Routt Charter School for the 2020 Community Snow Drawing.Create a large, landscape-scale snow drawing by walking patterns with snowshoes on a snowy meadow on January 17 from 10:30-1:30 pm. Participants must bring their own snowshoes, snacks and water.
