Friday Grab Bag, February 22, 2019

The Friday Grab Bag is a weekly series that highlights fun, unique, and interesting happenings in Colorado libraries, and includes news from the Colorado State Library. Let’s open the Friday Grab Bag!

Before we dive in I wanted to introduce myself. I am Marisa Wood, newly minted Statewide Collaborative Programming Coordinator here at the State Library, and I will be taking over Friday Grab Bag writing and curating duties from Regan Harper beginning today. I would love to know what’s happening at your library, so email me at mwood@coloradovirtuallibrary.org with news, events, and celebrations for inclusion in upcoming posts.

Finally, the Bud Werner Memorial Library hosts multiple weekly events with the Steamboat Uke Jammers.

  • Mondays: Early Bird Practice at 11:30am, followed by the  Lunchtime Jamboree from noon-1:00pm. *Note that there will be no jamming on March 18.

Don’t have an instrument? Borrow a Ukulele!

If everyone played the ukulele, the world would be a better place. Jake Shimabukuro

Interested in hosting a ukulele event of your own? The Colorado State Library offers a Ukulele Kit that includes 8 ukuleles and supporting material that can used by library staff who may know next to nothing about music themselves.  Staff can use their preparation time to learn the basics, or find a musician in their community to teach a program.

Libraries and Museums in the News

Don’t miss the Craig Press piece on how the Museum of Northwest Colorado has seen a major boost in social media engagement through their weekly “Museum Monday” research feature on Facebook, which offers an in-depth look at some of Moffat County’s most interesting historical facts.
