Handy Work

Save money, help the environment, and learn repair skills with Pikes Peak Library District’s Repair Cafe on September 14 from 1:00-4:00pm. Disassemble, troubleshoot, and (possibly) repair broken bikes, clothing, small appliances/electronics, jewelry, and wooden items. Love pasta but always been intimidated by the process of making it fresh? Don’t be! Boulder Public Library invites prospective chef 18 and over to Adultology: Hands-on Pasta Making on September 12 from 6:00-7:30.  Learn to make gnocchi, tagliatelle, farfalle, and more with Matt Collier, head chef of Seeds Library Café. Join Pueblo City-County Library on September 28 at 2:00 for a Family Fishing Workshop. Presenters will cover different styles of fishing and when to use them along with a breakdown of different types of lures and knots, what you’ll want in your tackle box, and more! Check out fishing poles and tackle boxes from the library and you are ready to fish!

Soldering is the process of heating metal to create connections and joints between metal or electronic components and is utilized to create anything from electronics to jewelry. Teens attending Clearview Library District’s INTRO TO SOLDERING FOR TEENS on September 11 from 4:00-5:30 will learn a new skill and walk away with a completed SparkFun Basic Flashlight kit that they soldered themselves at. Flat tires happen and when they do, you need to be prepared. Join Aurora Public Library for Practical Life Skills: Changing A Tire on August 30 at 4:00 pm. Learn how to change a tire safely, how to check the tire pressure, and the importance of tire rotations. Reader, I need this!

Westminster Public Library hosts The Laundry Truck at the Irving Street Branch on the 1st Monday of every month from 9:00am-2:00pm.  The last load is accepted at 12:30 pm, and each customer can have two 10 pound loaded washed.

Fort Morgan Public Library offers Free Drivers Ed Program that includes practice tests for Car, Motorcycle, and CDL licenses, as well as a DMV Exam Simulator and additional resources for prospective drivers.

Express Yourself

Elementary, middle, and high school students are invited to submit entries for Durango Public Library’s annual Friends of the Library Bookmark Contest. Two winners in each category will receive Maria’s Bookshop gift certificates. 2,000 bookmarks of each winning design will be printed with the artists’ names. Entry forms can be found HERE. Entries must be submitted by September 27.

Amateur writers in grades 4-12 are invited to submit their original flash fiction work inspired by ghosts, goblins, and other ghoulish spirits for Poudre River Public Library’s Spirited Stories Flash Fiction Contest. Winners will be notified prior to the “Spirited Stories” Main Event on October 11, where they will have the opportunity to read their story to the audience or to have someone read it on their behalf. Submissions close at 11:59 pm on September 15.

Delta County Libraries are seeking original writing for presentation at Harvest of Voices, the kickoff event of Mountain Harvest Festival. If chosen, the writer of fiction, nonfiction, or poetry must be available to read their own winning submission before a live audience on September 26 at 7:00pm. All submissions must be received electronically by August 31. Submit a pdf to paonialitcomm@gmail.com.
