This week, Lt. Gov. Dianne Primavera is leading a tour across the state, visiting small and large communities alike, to build excitement for reading. Colorado Literacy Week draws public attention to the critical importance of early learning and to launch numerous efforts that will put Colorado’s children on a path to reading success. Colorado Literacy Week is celebrated during Family Literacy Month (November) and on November 20th which is Universal Children’s Day.
On Monday, Nov. 18, Lt. Gov. Primavera read at a story time event at the Westminster Public Library, gave away copies of Penguinaut, Duck on a Bike, and the Colorado Day by Day early literacy calendar, and learned about the Growing Readers Together early literacy grant work.
Tuesday, Nov. 19, took the tour to the Colorado Springs area, where Lt. Gov. Primavera read the three 2020 One Book Colorado finalists at the Pikes Peak – Monument Library and attended a Literacy Week Event at Lewis Palmer Elementary School.
Today, Wednesday, Nov. 20, Lt. Gov. Primavera heads north for a preschool story time at the Old Town Library in Fort Collins, and concludes at Coyote Ridge Elementary School in Broomfield.
Colorado Literacy Week is a joint effort between SERVE Colorado, Colorado State Libraries, Colorado Department of Education, Mile High United Way, Denver7, Denver Preschool Program and One Book Colorado. The program is sponsored by Denver Preschool Program, Denver7 and Serve Colorado, Walmart, McDonalds, Bank of America, the Junior League of Denver, Anadarko, PNC Bank, the Aspen Community Foundation, Cydney and Tom Marsico Family Foundation, Buell Foundation.
