Check Out the New Colorado Public Library Standards

The Colorado State Library is pleased to announce the new Colorado Public Library Standards.  Whether you are veteran staff member or new to Colorado libraries, there is something for everyone here.

As background, the State Library is required under the Library Law to establish the standards.  They are not regulations, but rather benchmarks that can be useful in planning and budgeting.

The framework includes a total of eleven (11) standards:

One of new features in this round is to include “future-focused” items in our checklists—those which are “beyond the basics” or mindful of possible library trends.

We wish to thank the library leaders around the state who helped us develop this document and new website.  We hope it is a useful tool for directors, staff, and trustees for years to come.

If you have any questions about the standards or how to use them in your jurisdiction, please feel free to contact Jacqueline Murphy, Senior Consultant for Public Libraries and Community Relations, at Murphy_J@cde.state.co.us or 303-866-6891.
